The Field Between Us
A 6-Month Online Journey for Couples
The Field Between Us is a six-month therapeutic offering for couples who want to understand one another more deeply, strengthen their capacity for connection, and become more available to the relationship they are creating together.
Couples often arrive in therapy focused on the difficulty in front of them: repeated arguments, emotional distance, resentment, mistrust, intimacy struggles, major life transitions, or the painful sense that they are no longer truly reaching each other.
Yet what is happening between two people rarely begins only in the present moment.
Our ways of loving, protecting ourselves, withdrawing, pursuing, pleasing, controlling, or shutting down are often shaped by earlier relationships, family dynamics, attachment experiences, losses, and inherited patterns. What appears to be a conflict between partners may also carry the influence of much older stories.
In this work, we attend to the immediate challenges in the relationship while gently exploring the wider context in which they developed.
Through psychotherapy and systemic inquiry, each partner is supported to understand not only what they are feeling and needing, but also what may be shaping their reactions beneath the surface. This can help reveal the patterns that keep the couple locked in conflict, distance, or misunderstanding.
The aim is not to decide who is right or wrong. It is to help both partners see the pattern more clearly, take responsibility for their own part, and develop greater compassion for one another without losing themselves in the process.
Over time, couples may begin to recognise what belongs to the present relationship and what has been carried into it from the past. This creates the possibility of responding to one another with more awareness, rather than repeating familiar cycles automatically.
The work may support couples who are experiencing:
recurring arguments or the same unresolved conflict
emotional distance or loss of intimacy
difficulty expressing needs without blame or withdrawal
patterns of pursuit, avoidance, criticism, or defensiveness
loss of trust or accumulated resentment
major life transitions, including parenthood, bereavement, relocation, illness, or career change
family-of-origin dynamics affecting the relationship
uncertainty about how to move forward together
a desire to deepen an already loving relationship
Sessions take place online fortnightly and last 90 minutes. The slower rhythm allows enough continuity for the work to deepen while giving couples time to reflect, practise, and notice what changes between sessions.
The six-month container offers space for both immediate support and more sustained exploration. It allows the relationship to be understood not only as a place of difficulty, but as a living field shaped by history, longing, protection, love, and possibility.
When the patterns between two people become more visible, each partner has more choice. Compassion can deepen. Communication can become more honest. Space can open for love to move again.
